The 107th U.S. Navy Construction Battalion Project |
The Monument is located on the Northern half of the Island of Tinian. More specifically, at the intersection of 86th. Street & 8th. Ave. Since Tinian is about the same size and shape as Manhattan, they named all the streets the same as Manhattan. |
This is the brass plaque with a map of Tinian, as built by the 107th. and other NCBs showing the roads and buildings |
The 107th and other Construction Battalions were sent to Tinian for one purpose, to build the largest Army Air Force Field in the world. They succeeded! |
And the purpose of it all. B29s bombing the Japanese Homeland on a continous schedule, ending with the A bomb attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. |
This is a portion of the plaque, after cleaning, showing the details of the map. |
The map indicates the following Naval Construction Batallions were on the Island: (This color indicates that Members of this NCB and/or Sons, Daughters & Grandchildren have contacted our web site) 9th, 13th, 18th, 27th SPEC, 38th, 50th, 67th, 92nd, 107th, 110th, 112th, 121st and 135th
Other NCBs, not stationed on Tinian, who's members have contacted us. 11th, 53rd, 114th, 117th, 144th |
